OUR MISSION

The mission of the Institute for New Music is to strengthen, inspire and ennoble individuals by their contact with newly created art. We aim to aid

in the discovery and the defense of the new and we strive to give artists a supportive and nurturing platform and foundation to develop their

creative ideas. Society at large is often harsh and unkind to new creations, new talent. The Institute for New Music (INM) has at the core of its

mission points the spirit of:

 

Advocacy

For presenting new music in performance and educational settings and in nontraditional formats

Collaboration

Of artists across multidisciplinary fields to serve as a catalyst for transformation, creation or combination of new artistic ideas

 

Support

Of new artists financially as to provide fair and equitable compensation for their work

 

Expansion

And enrichment of a global community for new music through performance, education and advocacy

 

Evolving

Vision which embraces characteristics and practices which secure sustainability for the future

 

Celebration

Of personal freedom and the encouragement of individual expression while finding and maintaining common ground with others

In the form of physical spaces for practical needs such as rehearsal, recording, performance and more

BOARD MEMBERS

Jazz historian, music educator and cornet player Dr. Thomas Manuel holds the endowed Artist in Residence chair within the Jazz department at Stony Brook University. In addition to this he serves as a trustee to the Frank Melville Memorial Foundation, is the Artistic Director of the Loft School of Jazz, is a member of the Huntington Arts Council Decentralization Advisory Committee, and is the founder and President of The Jazz Loft in Stony Brook, N.Y., an innovative and creative space which joins jazz performance, jazz preservation and jazz education in celebration of the past, present, and future.

Manuel has been cited for his accomplishments by The New York Times, Downbeat Magazine, Newsday, Jazz Inside Magazine, Jazz Ed Magazine and has been actively involved with global educational outreach to Havana, Cuba, Monrovia, Liberia and Port Au Prince, Haiti. Manuel dedicates his professional efforts to both the preservation of Long Island’s jazz history as well as presenting it to future generations and has received several honors for his dedication to the American born art form of Jazz including: Stony Brook Universities 40 Under 40 Award, several Suffolk Country Proclamations, the East End Arts & Humanities Council 2020 Music Masters residency, the 2019 Applied Improvisation Network International Conference artist presenter, and the 2016 Person of the Year in Brookhaven award from the Times Beacon Record.

THOMAS J. MANUEL

President

Dan is an entrepreneur and is the embodiment of "The American Dream."  He got his start in the automotive industry driving a parts delivery vehicle truck and he presently owns several businesses in the tri-state area, employing over 250 people.  Dan has also been very involved with several youth groups and holds a Board seat for numerous for profit and not for profit organizations.  Dan is recognized as an expert in his field and also has a wealth of experience in the sales, marketing, finance, and accounting fields.

DANIEL OLIVERI

Vice President

Laura has been a music educator for 26 years with a specialty in instrumental music and music for special learners. She is currently the Director of Fine and Performing Arts for  Hauppauge Public Schools where she proudly oversees the music visual art, theatre, dance, and media programs. Laura is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, CUNY Hunter College, Stony Brook University, and St. John's University.  She serves on the Board of Directors for The Jazz Loft in Stony Brook and is the Director of Professional Development for the NYS Council of Administrators of Music Education (Suffolk Chapter). Her professional passion is improving accessibility and equity in the arts for public school students. Laura lives in Port Jefferson with her musician husband, kids, step kids, and three dachshunds.

LAURA LANDOR

Secretary

Dawn is retired after spending over 30 years in small business management in the New York area.  She was able to excel professionally, while still taking care of her family and raising her two children.  Dawn has been involved in fundraising efforts for numerous charities over the years, while remaining passionately involved in local youth and educational organizations.  Her many strengths include public relations, marketing, and design.

DAWN OLIVERI

Treasurer

Cathy Salit is an actor, improviser, singer, social entrepreneur, author and executive coach. She’s been a radical educator since she was 13, when she dropped out of school and started her own high school. As former CEO of the award-winning leadership firm, Performance of a Lifetime, Cathy pioneered an improvisational, development approach to helping companies grow leaders and teams. She’s the founder of the non-profit Global Play Brigade, on the advisory board of Freestyle Love Supreme Academy, and President of Creative Choice Consulting, Inc.

CATHY SALIT

Board Member

Paolo Bartolani is a pianist, musicologist, and music manager, working in both classical and contemporary music. He graduated at the Santa Cecilia Music Conservatory in Rome (Italy) with Eduardo Hubert, then with Charles Rosen, György Sándor and Andor Foldes and Germainer Mounier . Paolo performs as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles in Europe and the United States. He has been the general manager of Music Up Close Network at Santa Cecilia National Academy in Rome. The Network includes seven European orchestras who promote new orchestral works and support a new generation of musicians to connect with young audiences. He founded the Rites of Spring Music Fest in 2016 to promote classical and contemporary music on the East End of Long Island, and to combine music, history, and the natural environment. The Festival currently is a non-profit organization 501c3 and he is the Artistic Director and Responsible for developing the Festival’s program.
